We're writing a training application that accesses a database to record student progress. We want to ensure that people can't access the database, or other files associated with the game outside of the application, e.g., people logged into the PC can't open the database in another application like Microsoft Access.
All of the application files live in a single directory, or one of its subdirectories. Requiring administrator privileges to get to files would be an acceptable solution, as long people w/o admin privileges can run the application and it still be able to modify the database.
We're not so much worried about licensing and reverse engineering as the files being accidentally deleted or the database being modified outside of the application.
The application will run on Windows 7, 8, and 10. Can windows be configured this way, or is there an 3rd party tool that offers this kind of protection?
